Veteran-owned | Ames, IowaI’ve always liked building things that matter.
I’m Robert Dean, founder of Elmswick & Oak. I build custom furniture and catios, with a focus on thoughtful design, quality materials, and work that lasts.
My storyI’ve always been a builder. I like taking an idea, problem, or a pile of raw materials and turning it into something useful, well made, and built to last.
Before Elmswick & Oak, I served in the Army and spent years leading teams in growing companies. Both shaped how I work today: communicate clearly, ask good questions, pay attention to the detail, and do what you say you’re going to do.
Now I design and build custom furniture and catios from my shop in Ames, Iowa. I’m involved from the first conversation through the final build, and I want every project to be something I’m proud to put my name on.
A little about me.
This business is personal to me. Every project becomes part of someone’s home, and that means a lot. I’m grateful for the trust people place in my work, and proud to build pieces that bring comfort, connection, and a little more good to daily life.
